What is Love?

Faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is Love… (cf. 1 Cor. 13:13)
God is Love… (cf. 1 John 4:8)
We should love God with all our soul, mind, strength and whole being… (cf. Matt. 22:37)
We should love ourselves and our neighbors… (cf. Matt. 22:39)
For God so loved the world that He gave His One and only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life… (cf. John 3:16)

There are a lot of verses that tackles about love in the Bible and few of those are above. God did not create love but rather He Himself is Love. His image bears love and we bear God’s image that is why we are loved, could love and could receive love. The love that God showcased to us is neither the typical expression we see in movies, read in novels nor something that tickles our emotions.

Mostly the love shown by God through Christ is the love that seemed impossible to do: the love for the unlovable, hated and whatnot. The love for people who we thought doesn’t deserve any bit of it. The love of God goes to every people whom they themselves felt that they do not deserve it. It was given to those who felt they are not worthy of it. The ones who felt they shouldn’t be given such attention. And the Lord did not only choose them but He also boasted to the world and made sure that it was kept in record to be followed as an example by His people through His Word.

The love that was shown on the cross came with pain, pain that seemed endless but since it was done because of love, it eventually comforts. And because of that event we are again redeemed to be bearers of God’s image and His image is Love. We are expected to spread that natural character of God.

This love month is more than what it should be celebrated for. It is something that should remind us of who we are and what should our purpose be in this fallen world. And it is to spread that fragrant love of God and be able to receive it properly too. To continually bear that wonderful image of God. To extend what He has given us despite what the world dictates and out of this love, everything would just follow and fall in its proper place.

Happy Heart’s Day my Lord! ❤
